Pondering:

God's message to love one another as He loves us sounds simple on the surface, but as Jesus told us, it does not stop with just those with whom we agree.

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?" Matthew 5:43-47

The message of God's love requires many things. The greatest challenge for us to live in God's word is to extend our love to those who do not love us, who may reject us, who for whatever reason fear our love of God and seek to persecute us.

Of course, there would be no persecution if the world believed in God's commandment to love, but Satan drives us away from the possibility. Still, I ponder what our world could be if we followed God's commandment to love one another as He loves us.
