The LORD said to Abram: “Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from the house of your father to a land that I will show you. “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you.” Abram went as the LORD directed him, and Lot went with him. (Genesis 12:1-4)

As God called to Abram, He calls to each of us. For each of us He has a purpose, He has a calling. It is our choice to respond; it is our choice to follow in His ways or to seek our own designs. Blessed are those who listen for His voice. Blessed are those who trust in the Lord. Blessed are those who respond to His call with faith and love.

In our journey, we must trust that God will guide us. He gives us the Word, so that as we follow the Word, we receive the blessings of the Word. Through prayer, we may listen for His voice, we may discern His call for us. We are called in different ways; how we relate to our family, with co-workers, with other faithful, within our communities, with those less fortunate.

Those who follow their own ambitions, who seek their own designs, may find temporary pleasures of this world, but that which they find will eventually fade. No matter how great the empire, it will crumble and return to dust if it does not contain within it the blessings of God. To obtain His blessings, we must first trust in His ways, we must follow His Word, we must respond to His call – as we do, we make apparent our belief in Him.

Bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God. He saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now made manifest through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus, who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. (2 Timothy 1:8-10)

Following in the ways of our Lord does not come without challenges. We see through history the persecution of the faithful because of the pursuits of men which are for their own agendas rather than the design of God. What we do is left to our choice, but so too are the consequences of our actions. Though we may face challenges when we chose to walk with our Lord in this world, when we walk in the footsteps of our Savior, we walk the path to the peace and joy of heaven, which may only be found through our belief in Him.

After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, ”This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” (Matthew 17:1-9)

On a high mountain, the divinity of Jesus was revealed to Peter, James and John. They were blessed to see the Lord transfigured and the appearance of Moses and Elijah to speak with Him. Blessed are those who witness such events, but what of those who do not see His face shining like the brightness of the sun? It is there, but it is our sin which blinds us. God has laid so much before us which should remove all doubt as to what He asks of us and desires for us. Blessed was Moses, Peter, James and John to see the direct light of God, but we are only blind if we choose to be.

Through prayer, we may come to know Him. Through prayer, we are able to feel His light. We need only look around the world to see the difference between what God asks of us and that to which the evil one tempts us. We see the difference of what good we can do and what misery is brought by those who walk in a path separate from God.

As one candle lights another, so too is the direct light of God passed among the faithful. We see His light through our works just as the darkness of the evil one consumes those in sin. It is to the faithful, then, to which He calls to pass the light; for as He came to be the light of the world, He has left the light with us, through the Holy Spirit, that it may shine each day through us. Through prayer, we may ask for the Holy Spirit to fill us. Through prayer, we may ask to know how we may best help the world to see the true light which reveals the path to everlasting life.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
