The Call to the Light

Scripture:

Arise, be enlightened, O Jerusalem: for your light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and a mist the people: but the Lord shall arise upon you, and his glory shall be seen upon you. And the Gentiles shall walk in your light, and kings in the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes round about, and see: all these are gathered together, they are come to you: your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall rise up at your side. Then shall you see, and abound, and your heart shall wonder and be enlarged, when the multitude of the sea shall be converted to you, the strength of the Gentiles shall come to you. The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Madian and Epha: all they from Saba shall come, bringing gold and frankincense: and showing forth praise to the Lord. (Isaiah 60:1-6)

If yet you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you: How that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me. Which in other generations was not known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit: That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body: and co-partners of his promise in Christ Jesus, by the gospel. (Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6)

When Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and are come to adore him. And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born. But they said to him: In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet: And you Bethlehem the land of Juda are not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of you shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel.

Then Herod, privately calling the wise men learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; and sending them into Bethlehem, said: Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come and adore him. Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the East, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was. And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him: and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having received an answer in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back another way into their country. (Matthew 2:1-12)

Reflection:

Evil strives for the demise of the righteous, but as it has always been in His plan, it shall always be, the faithful shall come forth into the light and assume the place designed for them by their Lord. Blessed are those who see and draw near, for no matter the darkness from whence they came, before them is a Savior who will cleanse them of their sin and prepare them for the blessings of His kingdom. In the days where the light triumphs over the darkness, the children of His creation shall rejoice, giving glory and praise to the One sent for their salvation.

He made them so they would come together, that their voices would join with that of the angels. In that day, choirs of heavenly song will lift every heart and celebrate the peace of His kingdom. They will know what is before them for the love which abundantly fills every heart which seeks Him. He will call to them. Those who choose to open their hearts to Him shall also have their eyes opened to see the blessing of the light and their ears opened to hear the song of praise to Him for the peace which He brings.

From two came tribes and nations which have wandered the earth. For generations, the evil one has sought to blind and deceive, but the light of the good news remains for each ear who will hear, the Word for each eye which shall see. Upon Peter he built His church and to Paul He revealed the truth of His Word so that he might preach the gospel to the Gentiles, their kings and the people of Israel. It was then so that we may have now and for what will be. As we hear His Word and we learn to set aside the deceptions of the evil one, we bring forth the tide of peace.

So many are called, even those who once persecuted those who believe in Him. So many are called, even those who have walked so many years in denial of what He seeks to bring to their heart. So many are called, even those who feel to be strangers to Him. Blessed are those who see the star of light and seek to follow it for what it will reveal. Blessed are those who pray that He will grant to them discernment, that He will guide their heart.

Those who plot and conspire against Him do not understand how they have been deceived or how they are driven to bring what they bring to the world. Those who scheme against His sheep do not understand the power which they must overcome.

Generations have learned the story of the child born to save the world, but how many have thought about what they would feel if they were blessed to be in His presence? Would they persecute Him for the blessings He brings? Would they flee His great love and mercy? Would they fall down in adoration to Him? Would they bring Him gifts? Would they rejoice knowing that the Savior of the world also meant salvation for them? Though, to each of us, the moments in a manger seem centuries past, if we ask in prayer, the child will be revealed to our heart. If we ask in prayer, He will reveal to us what the spiritually blind cannot see. If we ask in prayer, He will embrace us with love we can only know through Him. If we ask in prayer, He will guide us to His works and how we may spread the good news to the generations.

The evil one will seek to use the ways of the world to silence those who speak His name, but the voice of truth cannot be silenced. If we kneel in prayer and ask Him, what shall we do; He will not deny our prayer, but guide the open heart.

There are those who traveled far to learn of Him. There are those who traveled far to rejoice in His presence. There are those who are blessed in their travels, but the most important journey for any of us to take is the journey of the heart. Blessed are those who walk forth in pilgrimage, for their faith shall be strengthened and their journey rewarded. Blessed are those who make the journey of the heart, for as they find Him within, and they choose to accept Him, evil cannot take His blessing from them.
