The Blessing of the Gospel

Scripture:

You know the word which has been published through all Judea: for it began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached. Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things that he did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem: whom they killed, hanging him upon a tree. Him God raised up the third day and gave him to be made manifest, not to all the people, but to witnesses preordained by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him, after he arose again from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. To him all the prophets give testimony, that by his name all receive remission of sins, who believe in him. (Acts 10:37-43)

Therefore if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth. For you are dead: and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ shall appear, who is your life, then you also shall appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4)

And on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen comes early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher: and she saw the stone taken away from the sepulcher. She ran therefore and comes to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them: They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher: and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple: and they came to the sepulcher. And they both ran together: and that other disciple did outrun Peter and came first to the sepulcher. And when he stooped down, he saw the linen cloths lying: but yet he went not in. Then comes Simon Peter, following him, and went into the sepulcher: and saw the linen cloths lying, and the napkin that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, wrapped up into one place. Then that other disciple also went in, who came first to the sepulcher: and he saw and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. (John 20:1-9)

Reflection:

What wondrous gift have we been given, for by our own faults, we are not worthy of His kingdom, but through His sacrifice, our sins may be forgiven through Him. As He walked amongst the people, He sought to teach the truth of His Word and of the one greatest power, the power of His love. Through Him is the example of how the greatest of all became the servant of all, and therefore, destroyed the source of the power of the oppressor, the power of selfish desire.

Upon Peter, He built His church and commanded those who would preach His Word. Through His disciples, He sent forth those who would spread the gospel to the generations. Blessed are those who are ordained by Him to understand and share His Word, for in their sharing of the truth, they open hearts to the light and guide souls away from the deceptions of the world. Blessed are those who seek Him in prayer, for through their faith in Him, they shall find forgiveness of their sins and shall be guided through the gates of His kingdom.

As Christ rose from this world, He became the light of the path for all the children of God to follow. It is our choice to concern ourselves with the affairs of the moment or the opportunity of eternity. If our goal is to be with Him, then, we should look to learn of Him, to prepare ourselves, not for the grave, but for His kingdom; the kingdom where evil shall not be allowed to follow, where pain has no place, where His love is shared by all who come to Him. As we prepare for His Kingdom, if our faith is with Him and not of this world, we also make of this world a better place.

If we understand His truth and do not allow ourselves to be deceived by those who preach the ways of the world, we then, share of His goodness. If we live by His commandments to love God and one another, we then, do no harm as we walk our journey, but seek the blessings of all. Any who use His name to deceive or oppress shall be remembered by Him and judged by Him; and those who speak to the glory of what He has done for us and the blessings of His commandments, who go forth to live according to the blessings of His Word, shall find a better life and the eternal warmth of His embrace.

It is still a mystery to many as to why it all had to happen, a mystery many will not understand until their time in this world is gone. We can only imagine what was felt by the disciples who witnessed; who saw His life, His suffering, His death, and then began to witness His resurrection. They had been taught by Him, their feet washed by Him, but the most precious gift He gave to them was through His suffering and death in sacrifice for their sins and His resurrection so that they too might follow Him to eternal life.

They were often bewildered and failed to understand His teaching, yet, they continued to follow to learn more. As they discovered the empty tomb and the days to come where Jesus came once more to stand before them, to share of His Word, to ask them to care for His lambs and feed His sheep, they were given through Him the blessing and strength to share His message with the generations. Blessed are we that they went forth and suffered challenge and persecution so that the generations might receive His gospel.

We live in but a distant time, yet not even a moment from His heart. What His disciples saw, we can feel within our soul. In the moments we spend with scripture and reach out to Him in prayer, He embraces us and seeks to reveal to us the blessings of His Word. When we gather together to share His Word, He is with us and seeks to guide us. When we fail through sin, He remains patient. Blessed are we that through Him, forgiveness is ours. Blessed are we that through Him we might know love. Blessed are we that He holds a place for us in heaven; it is but our choice to accept Him so that we may forever be with Him.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
