Many blessings to all,
If what we do is based in selfishness, we close the door to love. If what we do is based in selflessness, we open the door to love. Love is not found in what we demand, love is found in what we are willing to give.
The Lord told us, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down their life for their friends.” (John 15:13) Jesus did not demonstrate His love with mere words or say what we ought to do; he did not preach that which He did not practice, He demonstrated His love for all mankind with the sacrifice of His life for our sins, conquering death so that He could light the way for all of us to His kingdom.
He gave us a new commandment, “Love one another as I love you.” (John 15:12) It is one thing for us to say that we believe in our Lord, but can we love as He loves us? Is it possible for us in a world full of strife? Is it really possible in a world full of temptations to selfishness? Is it really possible unless we truly understand the meaning of selflessness and sacrifice?
Jesus told us, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12) What He did for us was in love, what we can do if we believe in Him, is to fulfill His commandment of love. We fulfill his commandments by what we do in selflessness, in service of others, in all that we do from our heart as He as given to us from His divine mercy and His immaculate heart.
One must ponder how man has held on so much to the emptiness and despair of hate when we can be so fulfilled in love. In selfishness we find fleeting moments, in selflessness when find eternal life. Still, it is our weakness to the emotions of selfishness which lead us astray. If we find in ourselves that we are challenged in fulfilling His works, all we need is to ask in prayer for His strength to do what He has called us to do. If we believe in Him and ask for the courage to love, there is nothing that can keep us from doing all the wonders of His works but ourselves.
May the Lord be with you,
Prayer Soldier
