It was a time so far ago. We were not there. We did not witness. How, then, are we to believe such miraculous stories? If God so intervened in generations past, why does He not intervene now?
Few have seen our heavenly Father until they have passed from this world and entered heaven. Few have heard Him with their own ears. For generations, this was the way until God sent His only begotten son. In that time and space, a generation saw His works and heard His Word.
From generation to generation the news was passed. The good news of the Lord was passed amongst the faithful that we may all have the chance to believe, that we may all understand the Word, that we all may have the opportunity to follow the Lord, that we all may have the opportunity to demonstrate our faith by living in the ways of the Lord, that we all may have the opportunity to demonstrate our love for God and for one another, that we all may have the opportunity to be forgiven of our sins, so that if we believe and follow Him, we may have everlasting life in the kingdom of heaven.
But is it only the news passed from generation to generation in which we should believe? Why do we not see the hand of God with us today? Why does He not speak to this generation as He did to our ancestors?
Is it that He does not speak or we do not hear? If we move away from friends or family, do they cease to exist? If we do not talk to our neighbor, are they no longer there? How do we expect to know anyone around us if we fail to spend time with them?
And so it is with our Lord. If we do not spend time in His community, if we do not spend time seeking Him, how do we ever hope to know Him? If we do not spend time in prayer, it is as if we moved away and hear no more.
But look all around us. The wonders of God abound. And look all around us, the works of the evil one exist too. Which do we truly seek? If we do not seek the Lord, we are then easy prey for Satan.
Dear Lord, forgive me that I do not seek enough time with You. If I would turn loose the cares of the world, I could feel so much gentle peace and comfort in Your embrace. Dear Lord, I am a child, seeking Your arms, Your gentle soothing voice, the strength of Your protection, the wisdom of Your word.
Dear Mary, and all the angels and saints, I bow my head in my sin. I am the disobedient child and tears are in my heart for my weakness. I know there are many that seek the Lord, so many less sinful than I.
Dear Mary and all the angels and saints, pray for me, that God may have mercy on me and my soul. I ask that you pray for all of us sinners that we may turn away from the temptations of the world, that we may draw closer to the community and Word of God. Pray that in our unworthiness that God will continue to extend His grace and mercy that we may be healed of the ills of our sins.
Dear brothers and sisters, pray for me, a sinner that needs forgiveness in what I have done and what I have failed to do. Pray that we may all hear the Word and grace of our Lord. Pray that we may live in peace and grow in joy within the community of the Lord. Pray that we all may be forgiven and healed so we may one day join our Lord and one another in the kingdom of heaven. Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.
Peace be with you,
Nam Eno
