How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings glad tidings, announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation, and saying to Zion, “Your God is King!” (Isaiah 52:7)
The good news of the Lord is the salvation for our souls. Who can announce our salvation in the face of our sin but the One who can forgive us? How is it that we are to know of our salvation, the forgiveness of our sins unless He sends to us someone with the tidings; and so the angels would bring to poor shepherds glad tidings of great joy for unto that day was born to the world a Savior, the One to teach us the Word, the one to forgive us our sins and give us a new commandment, to love one another as He loves us.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
Angels and prophets would herald the way. The Word made flesh would walk among us. Our healing would be of our eyes, our ears, our limbs, our very bodies; but our true healing would be that of our souls. The body is but a vessel for the soul, a vessel for a short moment of time; but our eternity is beyond this world, it is what awaits from the choices we make.
“In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe, who is the refulgence of his glory, the very imprint of his being, and who sustains all things by his mighty word. When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high, as far superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” (Hebrews 1:1-4)
The angels sing in praise of Him, our Savior, for through His birth, through His death, through His resurrection, through our faith in Him; we may be forgiven our sins and join Him in the kingdom of heaven. On the day we celebrate His birth, let us rejoice and be glad for the tidings brought to us from the heavenly host, the tidings brought to us through the Word, the tidings which is a gift to us from God; a gift for which we should celebrate each day.
May the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
