Blessed Are Those Who Are the Hands of His Charity
Scripture:
Behold the days come, says the Lord, that I will perform the good word that I have spoken to the house of Israel, and to the house of Juda. In those days, and at that time, I will make the bud of justice to spring forth unto David, and he shall do judgment and justice in the earth. In those days shall Juda be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell securely: and this is the name that they shall call him, The Lord our just one. (Jeremiah 33:14-16)
And may the Lord multiply you and make you abound in charity towards one another and towards all men: as we do also towards you, to confirm your hearts without blame, in holiness, before God and our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, with all his saints. Amen.
For the rest therefore, brethren, pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus that, as you have received from us, how you ought to walk and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more. For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 3:12 ? 4:2)
And there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea, and of the waves: Men withering away for fear and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world. For the powers of heaven shall be moved. And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty. But when these things begin to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is at hand.
And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and the cares of this life: and that day come upon you suddenly. For as a snare shall it come upon all that sit upon the face of the whole earth. Watch, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come and to stand before the Son of man.
(Luke 21:25-28, 34-36)
Reflection:
The promise was made to the children of His creation that they would receive the care of the Lord. He promised He would send the One through whom they would be saved. They believed the One who would be sent would come with great power, but they nature of His power they would not understand. Power may be found in great armies with many soldiers and fierce weapons; but such armies are limited in what they can do. The One who was sent did not come to vanquish lords, kings and emperors with sword and shield, for He came to do what sword and shield could never do. He came to conquer death and vanquish evil not by the ways of violence, but with a power even greater; the power of love and the eternal Word of the Lord. The salvation the people were and are to receive is not the freedom from oppression in this world, but to be freed from the evil of the world through the blessings of eternal life with their Lord in the kingdom of heaven.
Through Him all are offered a gift greater than all the riches of the world; the gift of forgiveness and love. He called those who heard Him and all the generations to come to live according to a new commandment, a commandment to love one another as He loved them. Through love, all might give charity so that all might receive charity just as all who believe in Him shall receive forgiveness for their sins.
Some will follow the Word, but others will not. The tragedies which flow from sin spread pain from heart to heart. The happiness which could be is lost through the seductions of the world. Though conflicts rise and days become darker, the faithful will walk with hope in their hearts for they know the promise of their Lord. The evil one will work hard to drive conflicts among the people, casting lies so that many will turn on one another rather than follow His commandments to love.
The time will come where His justice shall be brought to the world. The wicked shall be held to account and those who have faced injustice shall be vindicated. In prayer, we should ask that we are guided by the Holy Spirit so that we use our hands for His works. Through prayer, He will reveal the truth in our hearts; the truth of the grace, mercy, forgiveness and love which may be found only through Him.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
