The Word for All to See
Scripture:
And Amalec came, and fought against Israel in Raphidim. And Moses said to Josue: Choose out men; and go out and fight against Amalec: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill, having the rod (staff) of God in my hand. Josue did as Moses had spoken, and he fought against Amalec; but Moses, and Aaron, and Hur, went up upon the top of the hill. And when Moses lifted up his hands, Israel overcame; but if he let them down a little, Amalec overcame. And the hands of Moses were heavy: so they took a stone, and put under him, and he sat on it: and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands on both sides. And it came to pass, that his hands were not weary until sunset. And Josue put Amalec and his people to flight, by the edge of the sword. (Exodus 17:8-13)
But continue in those things which you have learned and which have been committed to you. Knowing of whom you have learned them: And because from your infancy you have known the holy scriptures which can instruct you to salvation by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice: That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.
I charge you, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. (2 Timothy 3:14 ? 14:2)
And he spoke also a parable to them, that we ought always to pray and not to fall weary, saying: There was a judge in a certain city, who feared not God nor regarded man. And there was a certain widow in that city; and she came to him, saying: Avenge me of my adversary. And he would not for a long time. But afterwards he said within himself: Although I fear not God nor regard man, yet because this widow is troublesome to me, I will avenge her, lest continually coming she weary me. And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge said. And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night? And will he have patience in their regard? I say to you that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he comes, shall he find, think you, faith on earth? ( Luke 18:1-8 )
Reflection:
In the time of Moses, the children of Israel were attacked by those who sought to destroy them. As Moses held the staff of God high for all to see, the faithful were the stronger in the battle; but as the staff was lowered, the faithful suffered. The staff of God was not simply a rod of earthen material, but an instrument to organize and guide an army, just as His Word is designed to guide the children of His creation while within the battle against the ways of the world. When the Word is held high for the faithful to follow, those who seek to deny it will whither; but when it becomes hidden from sight so that the faithful are confused by the chaos about them, it is the antagonists which dominate.
And so it has been throughout the generations that blessings are shared as the people hold His Word high. It is the guide for all to see. When it is visible, the faithful are guided by it and blessed with its sharing; but the people suffer as His Word is separated from them and they are left to the chaos of the world. When there is no moral light to follow, people are left to wander in the darkness and will suffer at the hands of evil.
Through scripture, the people are taught the plan of God, the plan of love, the plan of eternal salvation. Through scripture, the people are also taught to what they are called, but when they fail and they miss the mark, that failure is their sin. We are called to help others to turn from sin, but in our help, we must reach out the hand of love, not the hand of judgment and superiority; for what makes us superior when we too are sinners?
As we walk the earth and journey through the ways of the world, the Word of God is our light. If we set it aside and say, we do not need this, then, we will wander to the darkness and all the cold and misery which it brings. Who is served by hiding the Word but the one of evil who seeks to separate the children of His creation from their Creator? To prevail against those who seek to silence the Word, we must first seek to keep the Word close to our hearts, for through the wisdom of the Word, we will learn the way to contain evil. We must not let the ways of the world confuse us, for wolves in the clothing of sheep will twist the Word before us and seek to confuse us so that what comes from our heart is the deception of hate rather than the truth of love.
And so, it is left to the faithful to seek courage and stamina in the fight against the ways of the world. Those who seek to deny Him will also fight to hide His truth from the faithful who follow Him. The emissaries of evil will seek to divide the faithful and set them to fight amongst themselves so they shall become confused. They will be lured away from the Word so that they lose sight of its meaning. If the light is allowed by the faithful to be hidden, the people will be left, to the delight of the evil one, to wander to the darkness.
As the generations pass, the struggle continues. It will be left to the faithful to raise the Word of God high so that all may see and be drawn closer to what it brings. The people are blessed when they understand and share in its meaning, but the words of the children of His creation are many and the interpretations between languages is confusing; how then, may the people be guided in the truth of the Word if they do not understand what they see? The faithful must pray for discernment so that they may understand what the Word reveals and so that they are able to share in the truth. The faithful must pray that they may be guided to be examples of the Word, for the people will see what is put into action.
The Word is shared from mouth to mouth and from heart to heart, but so the people may know the Word in their language, there are many translations. False prophets seek to twist these interpretations to sow confusion, conflict and hate amongst the faithful. There are those who attempt to use the Word outside of its context to further agendas of the world rather than the will of God. The emissaries of evil, if they cannot hide the Word, will twist the Word to confuse and confound the people. Small deceptions here and there are enough to cause people, families, communities and nations to lose their way.
How then are the faithful to learn and know the truth and protect themselves from deception? For the world to know the Word, He sent the Word made flesh. Through His Son, He seeks for the world to know the truth and the light, but as the Son departed the world, He did not leave the world, for He left the Holy Spirit to guide those who believe in Him. He said to us He would not leave us orphans, and that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things and bring remembrance to us of the Word which He shared. If we are confused, then, by what we see and what we are told, we must seek the One He sent to guide us. Through prayer, the faithful may guard against the deceptions of the world for He will not deny the truth from those who ask Him to guide discernment within their hearts. If we seek Him in prayer, then, we shall be blessed to receive Him in prayer.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
