For What Were We Formed?
Scripture:
And he said to me: You are my servant Israel, for in you will I glory.
And now says the Lord, that formed me from the womb to be his servant, that I may bring back Jacob unto him, and Israel will not be gathered together: and I am glorified in the eyes of the Lord, and my God is made my strength. And he said: It is a small thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to convert the dregs of Israel. Behold, I have given you to be the light of the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation even to the farthest part of the earth. (Isaiah 49:3, 5-6)
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes a brother, to the church of God that is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that invoke the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place of theirs and ours. Grace to you and peace, from God our father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:1-3)
The next day, John saw Jesus coming to him; and he said: Behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said: After me there comes a man, who is preferred before me: because he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he may be made manifest in Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John gave testimony, saying: I saw the Spirit coming down, as a dove from heaven; and he remained upon him. And I knew him not: but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: He upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him, he it is that baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I saw: and I gave testimony that this is the Son of God. (John 1:29-34)
Reflection:
Do we understand for what purpose He created us? Do we know the mission He has for our life? In prayer, we may ask Him. He will not deny us and will reveal His purpose to our heart if we choose to hear. Through the generations some have listened and some have not. As time has passed, peoples and nations have drawn close to Him and drifted away. It is the choice of the people as to the relationship they will have with their God. Blessed are they who seek to bring Him within their heart, for as He is within, they are drawn to His love and His peace.
In days of trial and tribulation, one may wonder, how can one person turn the tide within the world away from evil? For one person, it is impossible; but for Him, all things are possible. If He is within us, and we listen for how he asks us to lead our day and join our hands with others, then, He will guide us to help carry the light which is the beacon to those lost in the darkness. It is not that we alone must take upon ourselves every challenge, rather, it is for us to learn from Him how we may reach out to those around us so we may live by His commandments to love.
He called Noah, He called Abraham, He called Moses, He called Naomi, He called Ruth, He called David, He called Mary, He called Joseph, He called Peter, He called John, He called Stephen, He called Paul, He called Francis; He has called all the children of His creation to be servants of Him and one another. He calls some to be servant leaders of His church while He calls others to care for those who approach it. He calls some to teach and He calls others to care for those in need. He calls some to tend to the day and He calls others to raise the generations to come.
We all have vocations to which we are called, but we must listen carefully for His voice if we are to place our talents to His purpose. He will guide our way if we seek to spend time with Him. To some, He has spoken boldly as he did to Noah, Abraham, Moses and Paul. To most of us, though, He reaches for us gently, for He leaves to all the choice of their paths; therefore, we must listen carefully in prayer so we do not miss what He whispers to us, the blissful whisper of His everlasting love and His mission for us. If we reach to Him, He will embrace us. If we seek Him in prayer, He will not deny us; for He did not create us to abandon us, rather, He created us so that we may walk forever with Him. Through the blessing of the Holy Spirit within our heart, our way is to be found.
Even he who was sent to herald His way did not recognize the One sent for the blessing and salvation of all until the messenger was guided by the Holy Spirit. John preached of the One who was to come, but it was the Holy Spirit who revealed to John the One of which He guided John to speak. John did that to which he was guided, a mission he felt even while he was still within the womb; and so it was that the Son of God was revealed to the world. It is through the Holy Spirit, then, we may too find to what we are called and what we may do for the blessings of others.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
