The Warning We Must Heed
Scripture:
And the word of the Lord came to Jonas the second time saying: Arise, and go to Ninive, the great city: and preach in it the preaching that I bid you. And Jonas arose, and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord: now Ninive was a great city of three days to journey. And Jonas began to enter into the city one day of journey: and he cried and said: Yet forty days and Ninive shall be destroyed. And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least.
And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not. (Jonah 3:1-5, 10)
This therefore I say, brethren: The time is short. It remains, that they also who have wives be as if they had none: And they that weep, as though they wept not: and they that rejoice, as if they rejoiced not: and they that buy as if they possessed not: And they that use this world, as if they used it not. For the fashion of this world passes away. (1 Corinthians 7:29-31)
And after that John was delivered up, Jesus came in Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying: The time is accomplished and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel: And passing by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother, casting nets into the sea for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them: Come after me; and I will make you to become fishers of men. And immediately leaving their nets, they followed him. And going on from thence a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who also were mending their nets in the ship: And forthwith he called them. And leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with his hired men, they followed him. (Mark 1:14-20)
Reflection:
So many have come forth to warn that the end is near. When we hear such words, we often think of the end times, the day the world will be brought to an end and the final judgment of our Lord shall be rendered upon all. We are also told we will not know the day or the hour, despite many attempts to predict. While some will worry as to what will happen in the end times, we should consider that each of us faces a last day. It may come from disease or illness. It may come from an accident, a disaster, or any form of tragedy. We do not know the day or the hour, but the day will come when we draw our last breath within this world.
If we have invited the Holy Spirit within our heart, we do not need to fear this day. Whether it is the end times or the time of our individual place within the world, we will go to Him. As the Holy Spirit guides us in understanding, He will guide us on the path to our Lord and Savior. If we are on the wrong path, until the last moment, we have the opportunity to heed the warnings and seek His light.
We may have plans for the days to come, but we must always be prepared as if the next moment to come will be our last. Our plans become vanity if He is not within our heart. If we walk our days blinded by the ways of the world, we shall not comprehend the path before us when we leave this world. If we are uncertain as to what is within our hearts, then, we should pray to the Holy Spirit, for He will guide us in truth and fill us with His love.
Our time within this world was given for a purpose. We may choose to waste the moments given to us, or we may chose to be guided by His plan. He calls to each of us to share of our gifts and talents. He calls to each of us to follow His Word. He calls each of us to share the blessings of His love. As we choose to live and as we choose to share so shall we influence those who cross our paths and they who cross theirs. In this place and time, the ebb and flow of good and evil plays out. Blessed are those who follow Him, for they will walk the better path.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
