Seeking His Wisdom
Scripture:
Wisdom has built herself a house, she has hewn her out seven pillars. She has slain her victims, mingled her wine, and set forth her table. She has sent her maids to invite to the tower, and to the walls of the city: Whosoever is a little one, let him come to me. And to the unwise she said: Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine which I have mingled for you. Forsake childishness, and live, and walk by the ways of prudence. (Proverbs 9:1-6)
See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise, but as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury; but be filled with the holy Spirit, speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father: (Ephesians 5:15-20)
I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eats me, the same also shall live by me. ( John 6:51-58 )
Reflection:
Wisdom is derived from the fruit of knowledge, observation and forethought of the possible consequences of action or inaction. Those who receive the gift of wisdom are able to discern that which is right and just and that through which the blessings of love might be shared. We are tempted to believe wisdom is derived by our experiences and perhaps the experiences of others, but how often do we find that we are the blind following the blind?
The evil one seeks to rob us of wisdom for it reveals the blessings of the Holy Word of God. Through the temptations of pride and arrogance, the great deceiver seduces us to believe wisdom is found within the ways of the world. If this were so, we would not live surrounded by the ravages of evil which spread conflict, strife, hate, violence and misery. If this were so, we would not be seduced to accept the twisted logic which justifies immorality and the culture of death.
We are tempted to justify the events of our days through twisted logic. We are seduced to believe evil somehow produces that which is good and that somehow the blessings of His Word are evil. We do not see as He sees; therefore, we do not see the folly of what we assume as wisdom. He calls us to examine how we live and the values through which we justify what we do and what we fail to do. He calls us to examine the good and evil which spawns from our lips and the efforts of our hands. We must be careful that we do not fall to the temptation to assume we are wise by our own evaluation, rather, we must seek the wisdom of our eternal Father in heaven ( Proverbs 3:6-8 ). If we follow the path of His wisdom, we shall find the blessed path of grace, mercy, charity and love.
If we follow the wisdom of His Word, we will find a better way. We will discover the blessings of living with the dignity which respects all who cross our path and the dignity of every life. If we live by His wisdom, we will set aside that which yields harm to others as well as ourselves. Through His Word, He has given us the means by which we may discern the wise path; the path of all which is right and just; the path of faith, hope, charity and love.
So that we may make the transformation from souls of the world to those of His kingdom, we must learn to leave behind the ways of the world and accept the ways of His Word. To sustain us on the righteous path, He has stooped to become our food for we are made up of that which we consume.
What we consume of the world will pass with the world, but He came to sustain us with that which will not pass away. Through His flesh and blood, we receive the food which yields eternal life so that we may be forever fulfilled within His kingdom. It is His gift to us, the gift of His everlasting love. As we receive Him within us and we set aside the evils of the world, we shall receive His blessings and the joy and wisdom of His eternal Word.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
