Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Because of it the ancients were well attested. By faith we understand that the universe was ordered by the word of God, so that what is visible came into being through the invisible. (Hebrews 11:1-3)
Though some may doubt, we need only look about us to see the works of God. All the stars and all the planets were set in motion by Him. The sun was set to light the day and the moon to stir the tides. The winds and the rain stir the world so that it teams with life.
It was not by mere accident that all was set in such perfect balance that fish may swim the seas, plants may flourish in the ground, birds may fly the skies and animals may walk the earth. It was not mere accident that we were given the ability to think and reason, to learn about the creation of God, yet, left in awe for what we see and that which we cannot fully explain.
Some will reason that because God is not seen that He cannot possibly exist. Those who know God, however, wonder how anyone could be blind to Him. Some see with only their eyes, but those who see with their hearts know that He is always with them. Through prayer we bring Him into into our soul where we truly feel Him.
A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up. Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” They were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?” (Mark 4:37-41)
He set all the powers of the universe in motion, but He who began that which is also has the ultimate power of all which surrounds us. He formed us to come into this world where He has given us the freewill to follow Him or wander from Him. He desires that we remain with Him, but our love for Him has no meaning if the choice is not ours.
In the world we tread, we are faced with joy and we are faced with that which we cannot possibly fight alone. It is all before us that we may demonstrate what is in our soul. A life He has given us that we may learn, that we may be, that we might have purpose; for if all is by accident, there is no hope for anything better; left to ourselves, there is no resurrection.
Through He who has conquered death, we have hope for everlasting life. If we seek to lead it in evil, then, we shall be left surrounded by it and all of its misery and despair. If we seek to lead it in love, as He has commanded us, then, we shall be surrounded by Him and all His children who have chosen to walk in love of Him and one another. This, is the kingdom of heaven where all misery is washed away and all who follow Him are blessed with the grace, the mercy, the peace and the love of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
