The Source of True Justice

Scripture:

For there is no other God but you, who has care of all, that you should show that you do not give judgment unjustly.

For your power is the beginning of justice: and because you are Lord of all, you make yourself gracious to all. For you show your power, when men will not believe you to be absolute in power, and you convince the boldness of them that know you not. But you being master of power, judges with tranquility; and with great favor dispose of us: for your power is at hand when you will. But you have taught your people by such works, that they must be just and humane, and have made your children to be of a good hope: because in judging you give place for repentance for sins.
(Wisdom 12:13, 16-19)

Likewise, the Spirit also helps our infirmity. For, we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit himself asks for us with unspeakable groaning, and he that searches the hearts knows what the Spirit desires: because he asks for the saints according to God. (Romans 8:26-27)

Another parable he proposed to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seed in his field. But while men were asleep, his enemy came and over sowed cockle among the wheat and went his way. And when the blade was sprung up, and had brought forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle. And the servants of the good man of the house coming said to him. Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Whence then has it cockle? And he said to them: An enemy has done this. And the servants said to him: Will you that we go and gather it up? And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together with it. Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle, and bind it into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather into my barn.

Another parable he proposed unto them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown up, it is greater than all herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the branches thereof.

Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened. All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the multitudes: and without parables he did not speak to them. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

Then having sent away the multitudes, he came into the house, and his disciples came to him, saying: Expound to us the parable of the cockle of the field. Who made answer and said to them: He that sows the good seed is the Son of man. And the field is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle are the children of the wicked one. And the enemy that sowed them, is the devil. But the harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers are the angels. Even as cockle therefore is gathered up, and burnt with fire: so shall it be at the end of the world. The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
(Matthew 13:24-43)

Reflection:

Justice is a matter of the children of His creation doing what is right in love of God and one another. It is for this reason He has given us the two commandments which He called the greatest (Matthew 22:36-40). The challenge for people are emotions which yield the difference between right and wrong. Days of frustration and days of anger yield actions which trigger ways of evil. Days of charity and days of love yield the path He desires for us.

Blessed are we, for the days we fail to cope with the causes of frustration and anger, He offers patience that we might learn and turn back to the ways of charity and love. He knows what is in the heart, and for the heart which is contrite and repentant, He offers forgiveness for our failings.

Men and women sit in judgment of one another for what they believe to be right and wrong, but whether they judge in justice is a matter of what they allow to guide their heart. If they turn to Him, their justice will be true, but if they turn to other ways, their justice will falter and fail. The evil one preys on the clouded heart and seeks to twist and pervert reasoning. Injustice swells in the world as hearts are fed with illicit desires and people are tempted to selfish agendas.

It is through schemes of the evil one through which tyrants are born, dictators flourish, crime consumes the streets and the people suffer. In every hierarchy; no matter government, business or church; the evil one whispers at hearts and lures the children of His creation away from what is right and just. It need not be so, for He has given us the Word through which all the children of His creation may live in peace, charity and love. If we are confused as to the path of what is right and just, we should ask Him in prayer to guide us.

Few, except those with the darkest of hearts, wake up in the morning to set their day for the purposes of scheming evil. Many believe they have good intentions, but fail to see the consequences of their actions. Many do not see because they have turned from the light and wander in the darkness. Without the guide of the Holy Spirit, the heart which was once filled with love and innocence becomes polluted by the ways of the world. In this way, the people become confused that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right. If the people truly seek the path to the light, they must pray for the Holy Spirit to be their guide.

Through the blessings of the Holy Spirit, the heart may be enriched and the soul nourished so that the works which flow from the hands fulfill His commandments. Though some seek forms of worldly power, the faithful hold within their hearts the power the people need most, the power of His Word. It is through such power that even the meekest of the children of His creation may bring blessings to all who surround them. If all in the world sought such power, we would see addictions, violence and injustice drift away to the wind and the power of peace, charity and love lead us to the gates of His kingdom.

The evil one seeks to steel every heart by sowing within them the ways of darkness. We do not need to fall to the mischief of Satan. Through prayer, we may ask to be guided. Through prayer, we may ask how we may fulfill His commandments. Through prayer, we may ask how we may spread blessings to others. Through prayer, we may ask for the wisdom and strength so others may see the blessings of faith within us. Through prayer we may ask what we can do to bring a smile to a child and help to lift a burden from the shoulder of another. Through prayer, we may ask how we may grow the seeds of faith for the blessings of our family, our communities, our nations and our world.

His ways are beyond the totality of our understanding. Even the one we believe to be most wise among us may fail to understand His plan. Blessed are we, for He has given us prayer through which we may seek the truth of His Word. He has also sent the Holy Spirit to guide us. In prayer, we should seek to listen so that we may comprehend the path He has set out before us. We may be tempted to pray for selfish things, but if we ask the Holy Spirit, we will be guided to selfless prayers so what comes forth for the people is right and just.

May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
