What Do We See?
Scripture:
Ask of the days of old, that have been before your time from the day that God created man upon the earth, from one end of heaven to the other end thereof, if ever there was done the like thing, or it has been known at any time, that a people should hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of fire, as you have heard, and lived: If God ever did so as to go, and take to himself a nation out of the midst of nations by temptations, signs, and wonders, by fight, and a strong hand, and stretched out arm, and horrible visions according to all the things that the Lord your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes.
Know therefore this day, and think in your heart that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath, and there is no other. Keep his precepts and commandments, which I command you: that it may be well with you, and your children after you, and you may remain a long time upon the land, which the Lord your God will give you. (Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40)
For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear; but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry: Abba (Father). For the Spirit himself gives testimony to our spirit, that we are the sons of God. And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. (Romans 8:14-17)
And the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And seeing him they adored: but some doubted. And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world. (Matthew 28:16-20)
Reflection:
As we navigate our daily journey, we often fail to recognize the ways God works within our lives. We take our comforts for granted or our fortunes as of our own making. We do not see the many ways in which we receive blessings or how we overlook His providence. In the same way, we may fail to see the ways through which evil gnaws at us; consuming our hearts, little by little, until darkness consumes our very soul. As we experience the path before us, we choose directions. We choose how we cope with a hurt or how to be thankful for a fortune. We choose how we might ignore Him or praise Him for the ways He works within our lives. Where the matters of people become bleak is when they turn from Him and seek to become wise within their own estimation.
If we look for Him, we will find Him. If we examine our path, we will see the footprints where He walks with us. If we examine our choices, we will see where we have drawn close to Him and where we have sought to part from Him. If we ask ourselves the question Moses asked of the chosen people, we will see where we have allowed ourselves to become slaves of evil and where He has sought to deliver us so we might receive His blessings. If we reflect upon our path, we should see that His desire is to release us from the slavery of sin and bring us to the promise of His kingdom.
God does not reach out to subdue us, but to free us from the darkness. The prohibitions within His commandments are there to prevent us from causing harm. If we examine every commandment, we will see that what is within is the fulfillment of His commandments to love. This is what He desires for us, that we be free from the harm we may cause others and the harm we may cause ourselves. Just as a loving parent seeks to guide a child away from that which will hurt them, we are approached by a loving God.
It is for this reason that He sent His disciples unto the world, so that all may know the good news of His Word and the sacrifice made for the salvation souls. Many ears shall hear, but the question is whether their hearts shall see? Through the generations, the battle for souls will continue to rage, but as we seek Him with our hearts, we shall see the eternal blessing of His light.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
