So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma. (Ephesians 5:1-2)
Do we remember the innocence of our childhood? Do we ever regret how the world has taken it from us? Is it possible for us to regain?
From our conception within the womb of our mother, we have been upon a journey of maturing and learning. As we sense the world about us, our experience is transformed into knowledge, but not necessarily wisdom. Our beliefs and values are formed through experiences and the contact we have with our parents, siblings, extended family members, friends, teachers, teammates, acquaintances, and strangers. What we learn is amplified and often distorted by various media. How we act and how we behave is influenced by our interactions and associated observations of events.
Through our experiences, we are exposed to that which consumes our innocence and replaces it with the anguish of the world. We are lured through temptations. Evil finds its way to our senses. Some would say that once our innocence is lost, it can never be regained, but how do we protect it? We cannot navigate the world with our eyes shut and our ears plugged. Each day we must learn to cope with that which is about us, both evil and good.
Jesus told us, "Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." (Mark 10:15) We might ask, if the world has taken our childhood, how then, are we to have hope of entering heaven? The answer is through love, for as we give in love and seek His love, we resume our place as His children.
Blessed are those who walk as children of God, for they shall carry with them the blessings of His love.
