“Beloved, if (our) hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in God and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And his commandment is this: we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as he commanded us. Those who keep his commandments remain in him, and he in them, and the way we know that he remains in us is from the Spirit that he gave us.” (1 John 3:21-24)
That which we call sin is where we miss the mark of the commandments of God. Jesus told us that all that the whole law and the prophets depend on the commandments to love God and to love one another. When what we do or what we fail to do does not fulfill these commandments, then, we are walking the path of sin. The commandments to love as so that we will serve one another, for in that servitude, we are joined together in one body of Christ. We care for one another, we harm no one.
When we succumb to selfish purposes, we do not love, we open the door for evil to seep in our hearts. It may start with indifference to the needs of others, but should it grow, it may be followed by anger, which if fanned will soon become the haven of hate. In those moments conflict grows such that all suffer and misery fills the land. Where we sow love, we sow blessings of joy and happiness.
As we give love, we invite love. As we invite love, we invite the Spirit of God into our souls. In prayer, we are guided by the holy Spirit so that we may understand the true meaning of love. Our life becomes blessed as more and more around us come to be filled with the Spirit of the Lord and love fills the land. The misery of the world does not come from believing in Him, but through those who are filled with indifference, anger, and hate. When we see this, whoever walks its path is walking away from the happiness of the Lord.
From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17)
He came to be our Savior, but whether we will take His hand is a choice He left to us. He cautions us to turn away from sin, for it blinds us to the choice we must make. We are told that all who believe in Him shall have everlasting life, but how strong can our belief be if we do not seek to live as He taught us.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
