And as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return no more there, but soak the earth, and water it, and make it to spring, and give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be, which shall go forth from my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall do whatsoever I please, and shall prosper in the things for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11)
The Word of God was given to us to nourish our souls. If we let it take seed in our hearts, we grow as it grows within us. Through the presence of the Word, we receive the Holy Spirit. As the Holy spirit is within us, so He works through us. As we are nourished by the Word, so too may we nourish others. That which is of God is bountiful in love and goodness.
To what purpose may we put what is in our hearts? If what fills us is not of God, then, the fruit of our works will be void of love and darkness will claim us; but if what fills us is of God, then the fruit of our works will be filled with love and the light of the Lord will shine from our heart and spread from soul to soul.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come, that shall be revealed in us. For the expectation of the creature waits for the revelation of the children of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him that made it subject, in hope: Because the creature also itself shall be delivered from the servitude of corruption, into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. For we know that every creature groans and travails in pain, even till now. And not only it, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption of the children of God, the redemption of our body. (Romans 8:18-23)
Whatever the pains we find in this world will be fleeting if we seek the Word of our Lord and Savior. As we invite the blessings of the Holy Spirit within us, we invite that which is of heaven. That which is of heaven will heal us of our pain and buoy us in the face of our challenges.
If we pursue the vanities of this world, we will reap its consequences. If we exclude the Holy Spirit, we leave emptiness within us. Attempting to use the pleasures of the world to fill the void is deceptive for what fills us from the world will leave us empty again. What we consume of this world will always leave us wanting, but what we bring within us from the Holy Spirit is everlasting.
The same day Jesus going out of the house, sat by the sea side. And great multitudes were gathered unto him, so that he went up into a boat and sat: and all the multitude stood on the shore. And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying: Behold the sower went forth to sow. And while he sows some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate them up. And some fell upon stony ground, where they had not much earth: and they sprung up immediately, because they had no deepness of earth. And when the sun was up they were scorched: and because they had not root, they withered away. And others fell among thorns: and the thorns grew up and choked them. And others fell upon good ground: and they brought forth fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold. He that has ears to hear, let him hear. (Matthew 13:1-9)
The Holy Spirit is the sower of the seed of faith to every heart, but He made it our will as to what soil we become for the seed. If we are careless, the seed will be plucked from us before it can take root. If we do not seek understanding, then, we provide nothing in which the seed may grow. If we seek the ways of this world, we fall to deceit and become sterile soil; but as we seek understanding, the Holy Spirit finds a place in which it may root and spread His fruit.
Blessed are those who seek the Holy Spirit, for they will see a better way; they will see the path to love, the path to peace, the path to communion with the body of Christ, and the path to salvation. Blessed are those who open their hearts to the Lord, for they will receive the Word; the way to which we are called by God. As the Holy Spirit fills us, as we come to understand the Word, we put our trials behind us and place ourselves in the hands of the Lord.
God has granted each of us different gifts of understanding, but to all, He gave us the gift of the Word brought to us through His only begotten Son. As he walked among us, He taught in various ways so that each child might have the opportunity to understand what is offered to us; but not all will comprehend.
Some hear, but choose to remain deaf. Some hear but are deceived by the babble which surrounds them such that they do not believe what is the truth. Some hear, but find the noise of the world distracts them so they do not understand the love which they spurn.
Blessed are those who hear and understand for the meaning of the Word shall grow within them, the Holy Spirit will guide them and the labors of their hands will deliver the fruits of love and the blessings of the Word. In prayer, let us ask that we are blessed with ears which hear and hearts which understand so that we may forever know the love of the Lord and become the instruments of His peace.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
