The Gift of God for All Generations
Scripture:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Say to Aaron and his sons: Thus shall you bless the children of Israel, and you shall say to them: The Lord bless you, and keep you. The Lord show his face to you, and have mercy on you. The Lord turn his countenance to you, and give you peace. And they shall invoke my name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them. (Numbers 6:22-27)
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law: That he might redeem them who were under the law: that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying: Abba, Father. Therefore now he is not a servant, but a son. And if a son, an heir also through God. (Galatians 4:4-7)
And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child. And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb. (Luke 2:16-21)
Reflection:
What do we find in the ways of the world which gives us comfort and everlasting contentment? What blessing do we find in wars, greed, violence and selfishness? What legacy do we leave our children if we leave them a generation content to turn their back upon their Creator?
Blessed are we that God does not turn away from us, for through His patience and grace, we may turn away from the ways of the world and seek the blessings at His hand. As we respond to His Word and follow His ways, then, the society which spreads will be one which finds a common ground in the love of God and caring for one another. As each soul turns to Him, peace in this world becomes closer at hand.
As each heart lights the fire of love within the heart of another, the light will grow and peace will reign among the people. As the brightness of love floods the world, evil will pass away and will be banished from souls; but the choice is ours as to what we do. The promise is there for us, if we seek it; but a day will come that our time will end and we will be left in the darkness if our backs remained turned, our ears remain closed, our eyes remain shut, and our hearts remain unopened to Him.
We argue about who belongs to whom and who is blood of whom, but we are all children of His creation; therefore, we must all seek to be sons and daughters of Christ where we may all be brothers and sisters to each other and the sons and daughters of God; for as the Father is in the Son and the Son is in us, we are brought to the Father with the blessing of the Holy Spirit.
He did not send His Son so that we may be excluded from Him, rather, He sent His Son so that we might be drawn nearer to Him. He came down from heaven and was born through women so that He could be with us, teach us, and provide us with the example of love He seeks from us for Him and all the children of His creation.
He did not come to the world to exclude this man or that woman, but to offer forgiveness to all. He came so that whosoever believes in Him will follow Him to His kingdom to remain within the shadow of His eternal love. The ways He taught were ways of caring and charity, ways where all might live in peace and where the evil which afflicts us will fade away.
Blessed were they who stood watch in the fields at night, for they were blessed to receive the message of the angel of the Lord that birth had been given to their Savior. Generations to follow might be left to wonder what it would be like to have salvation revealed through a heavenly host. Generations to follow might wonder what a young woman pondered as she held her Son, the One who was not only her Savior, but the Savior of the whole world.
In those moments, the good news of the Lord was revealed, not just to those present, not just to those who witnessed, but for the benefit of all the generations. The good news is for all to hear, to be passed from one to another so that every ear might hear, every eye might see, every heart might be opened to the salvation which awaits them. In prayer we should sing in glory and praise as the shepherds did when they first saw He who was proclaimed to them by the angel of the Lord.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
