To all who see these words, Greetings:
Those Sent to Spread His Word
Scripture:
Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all you that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all you that mourn for her. That you may suck, and be filled with the breasts of her consolations: that you may milk out, and flow with delights, from the abundance of her glory. For thus said the Lord: Behold I will bring upon her as it were a river of peace, and as an overflowing torrent the glory of the Gentiles, which you shall suck; you shall be carried at the breasts, and upon the knees they shall caress you. As one whom the mother caresses, so will I comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. You shall see and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb, and the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants, and he shall be angry with his enemies. ( Isaiah 66:10-14 )
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision: but a new creature. And whosoever shall follow this rule, peace on them and mercy: and upon the Israel of God. From henceforth let no man be troublesome to me: for I bear the marks of the Lord Jesus in my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. ( Galatians 6:14-18 )
And after these things, the Lord appointed also other seventy-two. And he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come. And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray, therefore, the Lord of the harvest that he send laborers into his harvest. Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall return to you.
And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house. And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick that are therein and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. But into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you not, going forth into the streets thereof, say: Even the very dust of your city that cleaves to us, we wipe off against you. Yet know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand. I say to you, it shall be more tolerable at that day for Sodom than for that city.
And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying: Lord, the devils also are subject to us in your name. And he said to them: I saw Satan like lightning falling from heaven. Behold, I have given you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and upon all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall hurt you. But yet rejoice not in this, that spirits are subject unto you: but rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven. ( Luke 10:1-12, 17-20 )
Reflection:
From the few, there is hope for the many. Some may wail in despair in what they see as challenge which cannot be overcome. Some may dance in denial of the harm they cause through the arrogance of their ignorance. Few see the truth of the salvation which is possible through the blessings of His Word. He has pointed the way to peace. He has pointed the way to comfort and rejoicing, but it will be from the few who see that the blind shall be led.
In days of old, He chose a people and made a covenant with them, but in their weakness of flesh, they lost their way. Still, because of the love for all the children of His creation, He continued to send His prophets so the generations may be cured of their blindness and find their way. He continues to extend His hand of comfort, there for all who will take it.
In times of trouble, men and women seek His hand. When all is out of their control, the desperate seek His saving hand. The words which slip the lips of those in most need are to their Lord: God help me, God save me. They remember Him in their most desperate moments, but lose sight of him in times of plenty and prosperity. Many believe their blessings come from their own hands, but what is the selfish work of men and women but fruits which will decay and return to dust? It is the work of selflessness which will be remembered within His kingdom for all eternity. That which is blessed as eternal only comes through His love. The works of men and women which He keeps forever in His heart are the works of love. Blessed are we that our sins He will forgive, our love He will reward.
Each child which comes into the world is exposed to the world and may be blinded by the world. From the few who hear Him and are filled with Him is the hope of the generations. The evil one shall send forth all matter of deceptions, even those who pretend to share His gospel, but the Word which is not filled with love is not His Word. He came forward into the world and commissioned His disciples to go forth with the truth and the blessings of the truth. Only those who come forward with love as their words and works come forward as examples of His Word. Those who come forward in conquest and judgment may profess His Word, but their works only deliver the pain of the evil one.
He has justified the sword only against those who wield the sword against the innocent, but His desire is that no sword shall be wielded; that there shall be no exertion towards war, only exertion towards peace. Graciously we should offer the blessings of love and graciously we should accept the blessings of love, but as love departs the hearts of those of a land, none should be surprised as to the strife which follows.
Blessed are the families and communities who keep Him in their heart, for the blessings of His love shall remain with them now and forever. In prayer, we should seek to be guided in how we may offer our talents in love, for as we do for another, we do for Him. Through His love, He sacrificed Himself for our sins so that we may leave them behind and seek the path of His love. Even the smallest act of love will be remembered in His heart and therefore for eternity, for the greatest conquest of the world shall perish with the world, for the world came from dust and shall return to dust; but His heart and His kingdom are eternal.
May the peace and blessings of the Lord be with you always,
Prayer Soldier
