The Soil Within Our Heart

"Hear then the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold." (Matthew 13:18-23)

We each have a different journey. For some, the seed of His Word was planted during their youth, while others walk ignorant until a moment comes where a seed is sown. He reaches out to all of us and through each of us. In the heart of each of us, He seeks to sow His Word.

The events of our lives influence how we receive the Word, but He leaves it to our heart to be the soil in which it is nourished. Unlike the field, we have the choice as to the soil we shall be. If we choose to be the rich soil, the seed of His Word shall grow within us and His blessings shall be spread through us.

To be the rich soil, we must spend time with His Word and we must spend time with Him. As we read and hear His Word, we must pray that we also receive the wisdom which it contains. In prayer, we must listen for what He asks of us, so that we may bear the fruit which comes from the rich soil.

Blessed are those who receive the wisdom of His Word, for through their understanding, His blessings shall be shared.
